Sophomore Year Checklist
- The regular high school counselors will visit sophomore classrooms in the fall to follow up with career exploration and course choices. Continue to explore career choices and fields of study during Career Day in the fall.
- Take the PSAT test in October. It is a good practice for the SAT test taken during the spring of your Junior year. The SAT taken during the Junior year determines eligibility for the National Merit Scholars program. Listen for the announcement in late September letting you know when to sign up in the bookstore to take the test. It is only offered one time each year, in October, on a Saturday morning. You should see an improvement in score from your freshman year.
- Visit the College Board website at www.collegeboard.com. There is a wealth of information there with which you should become familiar. It is a source for college searches, as well as PSAT and SAT preparation. Visit the website each day to answer the SAT question of the day in preparation for the SAT test your junior year. While it may seem like a long way away, starting to prepare now can result in a better score, which can impact college admissions.
