Junior Year Checklist - Fall

  • Begin searching out your college choices and make campus visits during fall or winter break when possible. www.collegeview.com may help with searches. You can also find information on the College Board website.
  • Weekly or monthly, check the Marcos - Guidance department website for scholarships that might apply to juniors. Checking on the site will also give you an idea of scholarships that are available to you your senior year.
  • Take the PSAT test in October. It is a good practice for the SAT test taken during the spring of your Junior year. The PSAT taken during the junior year determines eligibility for the National Merit Scholars program. Listen for the announcement in late September letting you know when to sign up in the bookstore to take the test. It is only offered on time each year, in October, on a Saturday morning.
  • Regularly check out the Marcos website for scholarships that might apply to you as a junior. This will also give you ideas of the scholarships that are available to you your senior year. Register at www.fastweb.com for a national scholarship search.
  • Do NOT EVER pay a company to find you a scholarship. A little bit of time and effort on your part will achieve the same effect. You may end up paying over $500, and end up with a $100 or less scholarship!
  • Counselors will come to your classroom with general information on college preparation in the fall.
