- Visit the Marcos de Niza website: http://www.tuhsd.k12.az.us/mdn. Be able to find the links to the Guidance department, links to teacher emails and teacher grades.

- Meet with the gifted coordinator to dicuss courses you are taking and alignment of those courses to your aptitudes, interests, and post-secondary goals (Individual Learning Plan, ILP).

- Complete the KUDER System skill assessment (www.kuder.com) in your Freshman English Class. The results will give you an initial look at career clusters you may want to begin exploring. You will also learn about the KUDER system and how it can help you build a 4 year plan as well as search for colleges and scholarship information.

- You will be assigned a school counselor who will be with you all four years. Get to know him or her. They are an important resource for you.

- Take the PSAT test in October. It is a good practice for the SAT test taken during the spring of your Junior year. The PSAT taken during the junior year determines eligibility for the National Merit Scholars program. Listen for the announcement in late September, letting you know when to sign up in the bookstore to take the test. It is only offered one time each year, in October, on a Saturday morning.

- You will be registering for your sophomore year of classes in February. Make sure you are following your four-year plan for college.

- Be active in clubs, sports, and community activities. When appropriate or available, look for leadership opportunities. Keep track of all these activities during high school. You will use this information when applying for National Honor Society, college and/or scholarships.

- Keep copies of report cards and test scores in a central location for easy access to credit information, graduation status, and general information about your schedule and teachers.
